Since January 2000 Carolien has worked as an independent artist after years as a designer at Philips Design. Her paintings are highly autobiographical. The female figures tell her story and represent each step of her heights and depths. Sometimes as a mirror and sometimes as a contrast. They show subtly experiences of ‘now’ moments.

With a softness of ‘whisper lines’ she approaches her femininity on canvas. This demure expression ensures that the meaning of the work always remains suggestive and therefore leaves room for personal interpretation and emotions of the viewer. The ‘Wise women’ are pieces of her story, each representing both a part of her personality and their own personality. They are the image of her inner life, as for every man, often difficult to translate.

Carolien’s luck is that she can feel her process and feed it by painting on canvas. With this graphic and figurative imagery, she can better understand her reality.
